Where it’s summer all year around!!!
I was recently
invited by Thomspons Tours and SAA to visit the beautiful island of
Mauritius, which was an experience I will never forget. This was
primarily a site inspection.
A group of 10
travel agents departed in Business Class on SAA bound for Mauritius
07 June. Business Travel was an absolute delight, and I am
priviledged to have been able to travel in this class.
The hotels we
visited during our stay were:
Le Preskil Beach
Resort which is situated on a natural private penisula along the
East Coast at La Ponte Jerome and nearby Mahebourg. It is typical
Creole and enjoys three idyllic beaches.
Tropical Hotel
which is part of the Naiade Group. Naiade means Mermaid and this
property is on the East Coast of the island and is renowned for its
family family atmosphere.
Ambre Hotel and
Palmar Beach Resort - these are also situated on the East Coast and
offer facilties for conferences.
|

BEAU RIVAGE HOTEL |
The Beau Rivage
has the deepest swimming pool on the island and all their rooms are
Mauritian influenced.
The Paul and
Virginie Hotels gets its name from the famous novel by Bernardin
de St. Pierre which is based on authentic events in the history
of I’le de France, as Mauritius was previously known. Thus the
St Geran was truly wrecked in August 1744 and Paul and Virginie
were the mythical youths with a great love story that ended so
tragically.
Legends is a
stunning 5 star property and enjoys the 5 forces of Chinese
influence. Water, Metal, Wood, Earth and Mirror are used
throughout the hotel and this hotel has the only hotel cinema on
the island. |
Amongst the other
hotels we visited were Coin de Mire, a small and intimate resort,
and for those who enjoy nighclubbing, the Veranda Hotel has much to
offer!! The Merville Hotels has a selection of accommodation options
and is in within walking distance of Grand Baie, which is the most
popular village on the island, and has a range of duty free
boutiques and craft markets - something for everyone’s taste.
Coralia Mont Choisy is Mauritian designed, offering entertainment in
the Indian, Chinese and Creole style.
The Oberoi is a
great 5 star resort with a unique style of architecture done by Mr Lek Bunnag, a renowned Thai architect. Maritim Hotel and Le
Cocotiers Hotel, Hilton and Les Pavilions Hotel were amongst the
last hotels visited - so many hotels, so little time!!! There is an
hotel for everyone - from the smallest intimate resort, to 5 star
properties comparable to anywhere in the world!!

After a
wonderful breakfast and hotel inspection we enjoyed a cruise on
a glass–bottomed boat. Some of the group enjoyed snorkelling,
but I was not brave enough.
Mauritius has
an estimated population of 1.2 million people and is made up of
various racial groups. all co-existing harmoniously. There are
many rituals and cuisines of a myriad of societies including
Chinese, Indian and Creole. This contributes to the exotic and
varied character of this paradise island.
We returned home,
an exhausted group of excited travel agents!! Mauritius is a
destination for all and everyone. Its safe, only 4 hours airtravel
away, hotel service is impressive, affordable, excellent annual
climate and all the people are so friendly and helpful. |
